Guyler Gorby

Tyler Gordon is the Head Instructor and founder of Kingdom Combat. With over six years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training, Tyler’s mission is to develop strong athletes while pointing people toward Christ through character, humility, and perseverance — both on and off the mats. A purple belt under Chad Hawkins, Tyler brings passion, encouragement, and intentional coaching into every class. He works with kids and adults alike, from casual students to serious competitors, creating an environment where people feel supported, challenged, and empowered. His coaching philosophy centers on staying calm under pressure, trusting the process, and finding joy in the journey — values that mirror both Jiu-Jitsu and faith. Tyler’s competitive accomplishments include two world titles, over a dozen gold and silver medals, and world rankings of #1 at ultra-heavy white belt and #4 overall during his white belt career. But what matters most to him is seeing students succeed — especially watching them execute techniques in competition that they just drilled moments earlier. Kingdom Combat exists to glorify God by building confident, disciplined individuals through Jiu-Jitsu. It’s more than a gym — it’s a community where faith leads, effort matters, and everyone is welcome to grow stronger together.

My journey into coaching started with a simple desire—to stay active after organized sports ended. I’ve always enjoyed the process of training, improving, and pushing myself physically. Over time, that passion naturally grew into a passion for teaching and helping others experience the same growth through Jiu-Jitsu.
I especially enjoy working with new students and beginners. There’s something powerful about watching someone walk in with zero experience and slowly build real skills, confidence, and understanding of the art. My focus is on teaching strong fundamentals and simple systems—techniques that have worked for me both in live rolling and in competition.
My coaching style is built around consistency and simplicity. I believe the best progress happens when students show up regularly, focus on the basics, and develop a clear understanding of why techniques work. I keep things straightforward so students can apply what they learn immediately on the mats.
I also believe a gym should always be a place where students feel comfortable asking questions and being involved in their learning. I'm always open to feedback and interested in what students want to improve, making sure the material we train stays useful and relevant.
Like everyone who starts Jiu-Jitsu, I began as a beginner myself. I make it a point to remind students that every black belt, every competitor, and every coach once stepped onto the mats for the first time unsure of what they were doing. Progress comes from showing up, learning, and putting in the work.
For me personally, success has been reaching milestones like earning my blue belt, but the real reward is helping others grow along the same path.
When students or parents walk into my classes, my goal is simple: I want them to feel welcome, focused, and ready to work. More importantly, I want them to leave feeling like they learned something valuable and genuinely enjoyed the experience.
